Thomas Bellinck (born in Recklinghausen, 1983) completed his studies as a theatre director from the RITS, the Brussels school for audio-visual and dramatic arts, in 2009. Prior to his theatre training, he pursued Germanic Philology at the University of Leuven. While at RITS, he participated in various productions at Nieuwpoorttheater, Theater Antigone, and ‘t Arsenaal. Notably, he was selected for Het Theaterfestival 2009 for a politically charged action involving illegalized co-citizens on a hunger strike. This event marked the festival’s opening with a speech titled ‘We were dying and then we got a prize.’ The same year, Thomas collaborated with Ewout D’Hoore to create a play alongside inmates at the Leuven Auxiliary Prison, a process documented in the TV series “Leuven Hulp.”
In 2013, Thomas initiated the first iteration of ‘Domo de Eŭropa Historio en Ekzilo’ at KVS—a futuristic historical museum depicting life in the former European Union. Following its debut in Brussels, the museum embarked on a journey to other European cities including Rotterdam, Vienna, Athens, Wiesbaden, and Marseille.
Since 2016, Thomas has assumed the role of a doctoral researcher in the arts at KASK/School of Arts (HoGent). He is also a founding member of The School of Speculative Documentary. In recent years, his focus has encompassed ‘Simple as ABC,’ a series of interview-based creations scrutinizing the mechanisms of EU ‘mobility management.’
