Hubert Czerepok (born 1973 in Słubice) is a graduate of the Kenar School in Zakopane and the Poznań Academy of Fine Arts (ASP), where he studied in the studios of Izabela Gustowska and Jan Berdyszak. In the artistic duo “Magisters” (with Zbyszek Rogalski), he produced absurd photographs and films. Collaborating with Sebastian Mendez, he developed the strategic game “Survivors of The White Cube” – a simulation of the art world. He formed a death-metal band called “Children of Sodom” with Steve Rushton.

He draws, paints, creates objects, installations, produces videos, animations, and found footage films. He develops multimedia projects and works in public spaces. One of the themes he addresses is the relationship between fiction and historical truth, where it’s not the facts themselves that interest him the most, but the way they mutate and undergo formal and semantic transformations.

In the years 2002-2003, he pursued postgraduate studies at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and from 2004 to 2005 at the Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium.

He has participated in numerous solo exhibitions both in Poland and abroad, including “History and Utopia” at the Arsenal Gallery in Białystok; “Lux Aeterna” at the Żak | Branicka Gallery in Berlin; “Devil’s Island” at La Criee Centre d’Art Contemporain in Rennes, France; “Cultural Transference” at EFA Project Space, The Elizabeth Foundation for The Art, New York, USA; “Regres / Progres” at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw.

For many years, he has been conducting artistic workshops for children and young people (including at the Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Art in Gdańsk, Arsenal Gallery in Białystok, and the Critical Cultural Centre in Cieszyn), where he addresses issues related to articulating freedom and deconstructing stereotypes.

From 2006 to 2009, he worked as an assistant, and from 2009 to 2013, he was a lecturer in the Video Studio at the University of Arts in Poznań.
